All About That Case (All About That Bass Parody)
Sometime last year, I jokingly made up part of this song in class while talking about the importance of knowing the case and gender of nouns. I spent the next few weeks working on the lyrics. I had originally wanted to do this video as a collaboration with someone who could play piano, but it just didn’t work out, so I put together this version. I think it is one of my best videos to date, but you can see for yourself.
All About That Case Song Lyrics
Because you know it’s all about that case, bout that case, and gender. 3x
It’s all about that case, case, case.
Yeah, it’s pretty clear that German ain’t easy, boo.
But I can teach it, teach it, like I’m about to do.
Cause I got that German degree from that place.
And all the right words in all the right cases.
You see the nominative working with the subject.
We know that’s what does stuff, come on and conjugate.
If you got that subject, subject, just nominate.
Cause every subject is the nomi with the der, die, and the das.
Yeah, the accusative is used with the direct object, you know.
(Shoo wop wop, sha-ooh wop wop)
If you’re holding something then that thing that you hold is accusative.
(Accusative, uh, accusa cusative)
You know there are also some prepositions with this case too.
Für, um, durch, ohne, and gegen, den, die, das, die. Oooh.
Because you know it’s all about that case, bout that case, and gender. 3x
It’s all about that case, bout that case… Hey.
I’m bringing dative back.
Used with the objects of the indirect.
And the aus, außer, bei, mit, nach seit von zu
Every indirect is dative with the dem, der, dem and den
Yeah, the genitive is used to show what you possess.
(Shoo wop wop, sha-ohh wop wop)
If one’s got something the someone who’s got it is genitive.
(That’s the genitive, uh, that’s the genitive.)
If the man’s got a dog then that is der Hund des Mannes.
Anstatt, trotz, während, and wegen des, der, des, der.
Because you know it’s all about that case, bout that case, and gender. 3x
It’s all about that case, case, case.
